Google Business Profile menus now support gluten-free and dairy-free tags

On 9 October 2026, Google added gluten-free and dairy-free dietary tags to Food Menus in the Business Profile API (v4.9). It’s a small change and a useful one.
What changed
The DietaryRestriction enum now includes GLUTEN_FREE and DAIRY_FREE values for food menu items. You can read and write them through accounts.locations.getFoodMenus and accounts.locations.updateFoodMenus.
The change is additive. Nothing is deprecated or breaking, and authentication, quotas, and the review API remain unchanged.
Why it matters
Dietary needs often decide where people eat, and gluten-free and dairy-free are two common ones. You can now mark them dish by dish, so a customer can see which items suit them before they arrive. We don’t know yet whether Google weighs these tags in ranking, so treat this as a clarity and conversion win first.
For platforms that sync or validate menus, update your enum handling now. Unrecognised values can break parsing.
What to do
If you run a restaurant or hospitality business, check your menu items and tag the dishes that genuinely qualify. Only tag what you can stand behind. A wrong dietary tag costs more than a missing one.
